‘March Madness’ Oxford-Cambridge Photo Contest

MARCH MADNESS

With the warm turn of the weather, is it any surprise that boating's on our mind? While we won't be able to host our own Potomac Challenge Cup this year, the Cambridge Society of Washington, DC is delighted to announce a month of 'March Madness' in the lead up to the April 4th Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race at Ely.

This 'March Madness' will be a near-monthlong opportunity to partake of the age-old rivalry with the Other Place. You can win glory for our beloved Cambridge by joining any (or all!) of the following events:

  • March 17: Pub Quiz

  • March 22-28: A Two-Pronged Photo Contest

  • April 4: Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race at Ely

PHOTO CONTEST

At this time, our March Madness Photo Contest begins!

There are two events in this contest:

1) ‘Quantity’ - the University that sends in the most photos wins.

2) ‘Quality’ - the University of the Alum who sends in the most creative photo (subject to a joint Oxford-Cambridge Committee Review) wins.

The Rules.

  • Each Cambridge alum can submit one photo to earn a point for their University in the ‘Quantity’ challenge and to be considered for the ‘Quality’ challenge. Submit you photos to cantabsocdc@gmail.com or post on Instagram and tag @cantabdc.
**If you attended both Cambridge and Oxford, you may submit one photo for each (email nonnka@gmail.com for your Oxford submission).

  • The first day of the challenge is Monday, 22 March 2021.

  • Photos must include something ‘Cambridge’ (or 'Oxford' if/when you're submitting an Oxford photo): e.g. an alum wearing uni/college stash, a cake decorated like a uni/college coat of arms, a statue of a famous graduate, etc. No need for perfectly literal interpretations - if you can justify it, it can count! Crafty captions are highly encouraged.

  • These photos may be used on our social media (Facebook, Instagram, newsletters), so please keep that in mind when submitting. If you’d really like to earn points but do not want your photo(s) used in social media posts, please note this when sending in your photo(s).

  • The contest runs through Sunday, 28 March, 2021.

The top three "Quality" entries will be chosen by a joint OUSDC-CSDC panel. Winners will be announced in April. On top of bragging rights, the winners will receive prizes in the form of cookies from a local bakery. We can’t wait to see your submissions.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to cantabsocdc@gmail.com
